What is the difference between trifold and bifold?
Bifold: opens like a traditional notebook, the leather covers the front, back and spine
Trifold: has an extra right side flap. The leather covers the front, back, spine and right side of the normally exposed notebooks.
Will Forest Nine Journals Patina?
Yes. Forest Nine journals are made from full grain vegetable tanned leather, which will soften, darken, and develop a natural patina with use. Marks, scuffs, and changes in tone are part of the leather’s character and make each journal more personal over time.
Will my journal/planner/insert fit?
Forest Nine covers are made to be compatible with all brands of refills. Any notebook or planner in the corresponding size will fit. For example, an A5 Forest Nine cover will fit an A5 Hobonichi, Sterling Ink, Midori MD, Moleskine etc.
Will your covers accommodate a thick stack of inserts?
Yes. Forest Nine covers are designed for thick stacks of journals. The trifold flaps are extra long & the bifolds are made with room to expand.

Is Vegetable Tanned leather vegan?
No. Vegetable tanned leather is real leather tanned with natural plant based tannins, instead of faster synthetic tanning methods.
Forest Nine uses full grain vegetable tanned leather because it is strong, beautiful, repairable, and made to age instead of wear out. It softens with use, develops patina, and becomes more personal the longer it is carried.
It is also a more responsible material choice when sourced carefully. Leather makes use of hides from the food industry that would otherwise become waste, and a well made leather journal can be used, repaired, and kept a lifetime.
