What Do You Write About to Transform Your Life? 31 Powerful Journal Prompts
Share
I’ve always believed that identity is key to reaching big goals. Two of my biggest ambitions were to become a runner and grow my business enough to go full-time. Neither came easily. When I first started running, I was 30 pounds overweight, with no sports background or running experience. My first run? Just 30 seconds. But instead of focusing on running 5km every day, I told myself, “I am a runner.” Every time I laced up my shoes, no matter how short the run, I was proving that identity to myself. Over time, those small wins added up, and now I can run 5km—or even 10km when I’m feeling extra unhinged.
The same approach helped me quit drinking alcohol. After years of drinking a little to frequently to unwind after a busy day, I told myself, “I do not drink alcohol.” Reinforcing this identity day by day has kept me sober for nearly 2 years now. It didn’t stop there—this identity-based journaling also helped me build my luxury journal shop, where I create personalized leather journals by hand. Since I was 19, these leather journals have been the foundation for changing my life. Journaling has been my tool for reinforcing the identity I wanted to build, and it’s how I transitioned from working as an electrician to running my business full-time.
These identity-focused journal prompts are designed to help you do the same. Whether you want to change a habit, achieve a big goal, or reshape your life, these prompts will guide you in building the identity that aligns with your dreams.

As the owner of an artisan leather journal shop, I’ve created many thousands of personalized journals to help others find the same sense of direction and purpose that journaling gave me.
As you use these prompts, remember that every small step builds belief in your new identity. No matter how tiny. 1 sip of water when you would normally choose soda, 30 seconds of a run. One single word in your journal for the day. Over time, those small wins will accumulate into significant transformations. Whether your focus is on health, personal growth, or building a successful career, these prompts will guide you toward making your goals part of who you are.
